Drug bust near Michigan school

Officials from a narcotics unit in Berrien County found both cash and drugs during a Jan. 28 bust. The search of an apartment just a few blocks from an area middle school followed the receipt of tips that suggested the activity had been ongoing for several months. Officers reportedly observed the activity in the area, noting the departure of two parties from the apartment in question. The 61-year-old man and the 48-year-old woman were escorted back to the location after a traffic stop, and officials searched the premises.

NTSB calls for lower drink driving limit

Motorists in Michigan and around the country are considered to be too impaired to drive when their blood alcohol level reaches .08 percent, but the National Transportation Safety Board is calling for the national legal driving limit to be lowered to .05 percent. The safety agency claims that a .05 percent limit would prevent countless accidents and save hundreds of lives each year, but the hospitality industry says that the measure would damage business and turn responsible individuals into criminals.

Lamar Odom won't be charged with drug use

Michigan residents may be interested to know that it has been reported that former NBA player Lamar Odom will not face drug charges in Nevada. In October, Odom was found unresponsive in a brothel after allegedly using cocaine. Although authorities wanted Odom to be charged with a count of unlawful use of cocaine, there was insufficient evidence to charge him, according to the district attorney of Nye County.

Chase employees accused of ATM fraud

Michigan residents may be interested in a story about two bankers in New York who were accused of stealing funds from elderly and deceased bank account holders. The accused bankers, who both worked at a Brooklyn branch of Chase bank, allegedly stole more than $400,000 over a period of two years.
