Police charge 2 with Craigslist robberies

Two Michigan men were reportedly taken into custody and charged with committing robberies via Craigslist in Flint Township. According to law enforcement officers with the Flint Township Police Department, the two allegedly committed several thefts through placing advertisements on the website.

Investigators first responded to the River Forest Apartments in response to a reported robbery. The alleged victim in that case told police that he had responded to a Craigslist advertisement for a Buick Rendezvous. When he met the purported seller, the man reportedly handed him $1,800 and walked towards the car with the key to check it out. The person claiming to have the car for sale then reportedly ran away with the money. The alleged victim indicated the key he had been given did not work in the car.

Investigators then contacted the two suspects after following up on leads. The men, both of whom are 18 years old, reportedly confessed to the larceny. According to police, the men also apparently confessed to committing two additional robberies via Craigslist ads. One man reportedly confessed to robberies at the Miller West Apartments and the River Valley Apartments, and the other allegedly confessed to robberies at the River Valley Apartments and the River Forest Apartments. Both are now facing multiple felony charges and are currently in custody.

Theft charges may result in significant penalties in the event a person is convicted as charged. In many cases, people may benefit by seeking help from a criminal defense attorney as soon as possible. An attorney may be able to secure a plea to a lesser offense or an alternative to incarceration. People should remember they have the right to remain silent and to request an attorney. Answering police questions during interrogation is unlikely to help.
